Environmental Permits Division

The Environmental Permits Division (EPD) implements and oversees most of the permitting programs for MDEQ. EPD also provides support to the Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Division (ECED) in regulating the permitted facilities.

Current Announcements

The Permit Board on Environmental Quality is proposing to reissue the statewide Mining Storm Water, Dewatering, and No Discharge General Permit (MSR32). This permit covers the State of Mississippi and authorizes the discharge of storm water, dewatering, and the operation of closed loop systems with no discharge from regulated mining activities. If reissued, this general permit would be active for a five year period. This general permit will replace the previous general permit that expired August 31, 2017. The general permit draft for public notice can be found HERE and the Public Notice can be be found HERE. The thirty (30) day public notice starts January 17, 2018. Written comments should be submitted to the following address no later than the end of the thirty (30) day public notice:

A Re-Coverage Form and Letter of Instruction will be mailed to everyone that holds an active coverage. Existing coverage holders may request re-coverage under the reissued general permit by completing and submitting the Re-Coverage Form within 45 days of the date of the Letter of Instruction. Both the form and letter will be available for access below upon general permit reissuance.
