Hazardous Waste Reporting

Mississippi law requires each generator of greater than 220 pounds of hazardous waste in any calendar month, each transporter of hazardous waste, and the owner or operator of any facility for the treatment, storage, recycling or disposal of hazardous waste to report annually the types and amounts of hazardous waste generated, managed and/or shipped during the preceding calendar year to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).

Small Quantity Generators (SQG’s) and Large Quantity Generators (LQG’s) are required to report annually. Data for the previous year’s hazardous waste activities is reported by facilities to MDEQ and MDEQ reports the information to EPA on a biennial basis. Generators are encouraged to submit these reports to MDEQ electronically.

Easitrak, the software platform that MDEQ has historically used for this reporting, will no longer be available to generators for electronic data reporting as of January 1, 2021.  In place of Easitrak, generators may utilize the RCRA Info Industry Application provided through EPA to submit the data electronically. In order to submit data electronically through the RCRAInfo Industry Application, generators will need to register as a user on the RCRAInfo website using My RCRAid. A link to the RCRAInfo website is provided below.

As stated, MDEQ encourages generators to submit the hazardous waste information electronically; however the agency also will accept the traditional hard copy paper form, or an emailed version of that form. The form can be found at the 2nd bulleted link below.

MDEQ has also provided a link to the NAICS codes to assist in completing these forms.

EPA’s Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO)

EPA announces ECHO (Enforcement and Compliance History Online), a new public access tool for compliance and enforcement information for all major facilities regulated under the Clean Water Act (CWA) , the Clean Air Act (CAA), and/or the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The data provides a snapshot of a facility’s environmental track record for the past two years. The data indicates a facility’s record of compliance with multimedia environmental regulations by showing the dates and types of inspections, violations, and enforcement actions for a two-year period. ECHO is presently in “pilot”status to allow the regulated community to flag possible data errors and to allow the general public to provide feedback on the design of the site.
The state has conducted a comprehensive data quality review to ensure the correctness and completeness of the data contained in ECHO as it relates to Major facilities. Should data errors be found in the Echo reports, the user may submit corrections online by clicking the ‘Report Error’ button. Online data error requests will be routed to the State’s data steward for review and, if needed, correction. The user will receive an e-mail from the State concerning the final determination of each request. You may address questions to MDEQ ECHO Data Steward.
