MDEQ Issues Contact Advisory for Station in Gulfport


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a water contact advisory Thursday for Station 10 in Gulfport. One other advisory for Station 11 previously issued is still in effect. These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. 

MDEQ Lifts Four Water Contact Advisories 


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted four water contact advisories Wednesday for beach monitoring stations 1, 2, 7A, and 9. Water samples at these stations show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels. There is currently one station across the Mississippi Gulf Coast under an advisory—Station 11.The advisories have been lifted for the following stations:

MDEQ Lifts Water Contact Advisory in Waveland


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory for a beach monitoring station in Waveland on Tuesday. Water samples at this station show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. There are currently four stations across the Mississippi Gulf Coast under an advisory.The advisor has been lifted for the following station:

Mississippi Receives First Planning Grant from RESTORE Council


Gary Rikard, Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), announced Friday that the State of Mississippi will receive a planning grant to develop projects and programs in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council (RESTORE Council) has awarded a RESTORE Act Oil Spill Component Planning grant of $1.4 million to MDEQ on behalf of the state.

MDEQ Issues Two Water Contact Advisories


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued two water contact advisories Friday for Stations 12A and 19. Three other advisories issued May 12 are still in effect. 

MDEQ Lifts Water Contact Advisory


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory for a beach monitoring station in Gulfport on Saturday. Water samples at this station show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels. There are currently no stations across the Mississippi Gulf Coast under an advisory.The advisor has been lifted for the following station:
