Governor’s Delta Sustainable Water Resources Task Force to Host Two Meetings

 

(JACKSON, Miss.) — The Governor’s Delta Sustainable Water Resources Task Force will hold two meetings in March to inform producers in the Mississippi Delta of ongoing and future activities to help address declining water levels in the Mississippi River Valley Alluvial Aquifer. Lunch will be served after both meetings.

 

•March 6 — at the Clarksdale Country Club (905 Friars Point Rd.) from 10:00 to 12:00

 

•March 7 — at the Capps Technology Center in Indianola (920 Highway 82) from 10:00 to 12:00

 

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) will present on the importance of permit requirements to implement water use efficiency practices. The Yazoo Mississippi Delta Joint Water Management District (YMD) will provide an update on permit application procedures. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) will describe ongoing data collection and modeling efforts that are critical to the evaluation of solutions.

 

The Task Force, which includes the Yazoo Mississippi Delta Joint Water Management District, Delta Council, Delta F.A.R.M., Mississippi Farm Bureau, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission, and the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, was formed to develop and implement actions to sustain water resources for agriculture, aquaculture, and wildlife in the Delta.
