Laws and Regulations

To establish a composting facility or large scale compost site in Mississippi, the Solid Waste Management Branch of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has established some guidance information.

To view these guidelines, click here on Compost Laws and Regulations and then click on Regulations: Non-hazardous Waste. This guidance information will help in the development of a compost facility or large scale compost site. To apply for a permit from MDEQ, or to determine if a permit is needed for a composting operation, click here on the Environmental Permits Division link. Composting operations that involve bio-solids (sewage sludge) should additionally contact the Solid Waste Management Branch.
