Mississippi Recycling Coalition Announces Recycling Star Award


The Mississippi Recycling Coalition (MRC) is pleased to recognize one of Mississippi’s outstanding young people for her efforts to increase and promote recycling in her community. The Coalition recently presented Ms. Becca Blair of Brandon, MS with a “Recycling Star” Award at a ceremony at the State Capitol Building coinciding with the organization’s Recycling Awareness Day. Becca, age 9, resides with her family in Brandon, MS near the Ross Barnett Reservoir where she has worked to promote and grow recycling in her community. From a very young age, Becca’s family instilled in her the importance of conserving our natural resources and being good stewards of the environment. Along with her family, Becca has been a faithful volunteer with the Keep the Reservoir Beautiful organization since she was only 3 years old.

MDEQ Lifts Advisory for Station 20 in Pascagoula


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory Thursday for sampling station 20. There are no advisories in effect across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. 

MDEQ Lifts Advisories for Five Sampling Stations 


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted five water contact advisories Tuesday for sampling stations 3, 4, 6, 8, and 19. An advisory remains in effect for station 20. 

MDEQ Lifts Advisory for Station 5 in Pass Christian


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory Wednesday for sampling station 5 (Pass Christian West Beach). Advisories remain in effect for stations 14, 19, and 20.

MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisory for Indian Creek and Steen Creek in Rankin County


The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a water contact advisory Wednesday for two creeks in the City of Florence area in Rankin County. An advisory is issued for a segment of Indian Creek from its intersection with Highway 469 east of Florence to where it flows into Steen Creek. The advisory on Steen Creek extends from that point until it crosses White Road west-southwest of Florence (see attached map).
