MDEQ Lifts Four Advisories

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted water contact advisories Thursday for four sampling stations–10B, 11, 12B, and 14. Advisories remain in effect for stations 5, 11A, and 12A.

Advisories are lifted for:

►Station 10B — East Courthouse Road Beach — near Courthouse Road Pier, Gulfport — the extent is from Courthouse Rd. east to Tegarden Rd.

►Station 11 — Gulfport East Beach — near Cowan/Lorraine Road — from Tegarden Rd. east to Anniston Ave.

►Station 12B — Biloxi East Central Beach — near Porter Ave. — from St. Peter St. east to Dukate St.

►Station 14 — Front Beach — near Martin Ave., Ocean Springs — from the Yacht Club east to Jackson Ave.

Advisories remain in effect for:

►Station 5 — Pass Christian West Beach — from Fort Henry Ave. east to Elliot St.

►Station 11A — Edgewater Beach — near Eisenhower Dr., Biloxi — from Debuys Rd. east to Edgewater Ave.

►Station 12A — Biloxi West Central Beach — near Rodenberg Ave. — from Travia St. east to Iberville Dr.

These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
