The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has received a report of a phishing attempt in which a Mississippi business was contacted by someone impersonating the agency. The fraudulent message claimed that the business’s license could be revoked unless they followed a link to verify or update information. The email did not originate from an official MDEQ address.
Please be aware that all legitimate email communications from MDEQ will come from an official email ending in @mdeq.ms.gov. If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from MDEQ—especially one asking you to click a link or provide sensitive information—do not engage with it. We encourage the public to remain cautious. Staying alert is the best defense against cyber threats.
