Our Dam Safety Division is set to begin a series of Dam Owner Workshops across the state. These events will run from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. All High and Significant dam owners are encouraged to attend. All dam owners, operators and inspectors are welcome to attend.
Join us in Jackson at MDEQ’s Amite Street Office on March 24 & June 15, In Hattiesburg at the Forrest County Extension Service on March 30, In Tupelo/Verona at the North MS Research and Extension Service on May 11, In Meridian at Union Station Downtown on May 25 and in Hernando at the DeSoto County Extension Center on June 8th.
Sessions will include:
- Introductions to basic dam terminology,
- How to inspect your dam; key issues and tell-tale signs,
- Maintenance and solutions to common problems,
- Emergency Action Planning and Inundation mapping,
- Liability and Public Safety,
- Hiring a consultant to assist, and
- Funding sources available to assist with the cost of rehabilitation of your dam.
