Since the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, MDEQ has prioritized gathering restoration project ideas from local residents and affected stakeholders. One of the most effective tools for this effort has been the online Restoration Project Portal, which accepts project ideas for consideration.
Over time, however, the portal has accumulated submissions that are no longer viable for restoration consideration including projects that have since been funded, have changed substantially due to evolving circumstances, or are no longer needed.
To keep the portal current and useful, MDEQ will update the Restoration Project Portal. Beginning January 2027, MDEQ will archive any project submitted or last updated before December 31, 2024.
What this means for you:
- Submit a new project idea at any time – there is no deadline. Visit https://www.mdeq.ms.gov/restoration/project-portal/.
- Update an existing project idea including its relevancy, description, budget, and progress. Updated projects will remain eligible for consideration in future project selection processes across all restoration funding streams.
