MDEQ Lifts Two Water Contact Advisories One Advisory Still in Effect

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted two water contact advisories on Tuesday. Water samples at these stations show the areas have attained acceptable bacteria levels.

Advisories have been lifted for the following stations:

►Station 1 – Lakeshore Beach (Bay St. Louis) – from the Silver Slipper Casino to Pointset Avenue.
►Station 15 – Shearwater Beach (Ocean Springs) — from Holcomb Boulevard to Ashley Place.

There is currently one station remaining under an advisory:

►Station 3 – Waveland Beach (Waveland) – from Oak Boulevard to Favre Street.

When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisory will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.

To receive beach advisories directly, send an email to rwilbur@deq.state.ms.us for inclusion in a public group email list, text “MDEQbeach” to 95577, or follow MDEQ on Twitter: @MDEQ.
