MDEQ Lifts One Water Contact Advisory and Issues One
(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory Wednesday for sampling station 8. The agency also issued an advisory for station 10. Advisories are still in effect for stations 1, 7, 11, and 15.
The advisory is lifted for:►Station 8 – Gulfport West Beach – from Marie Ave. eastward to Camp Ave.
An advisory was issued for:
►Station 10 — Gulfport Central Beach — from Alfonso Dr. eastward to Arkansas Ave.
Advisories are still in effect for:
►Station 1– Lakeshore Beach — from Silver Slipper Casino eastward to Poinset.
►Station 7 — Pass Christian East Beach – from Espy Ave. eastward to Hayden Ave.
►Station 11 — Gulfport East Beach — from Tegarden east to Anniston Ave.
►Station 15 – Shearwater Beach – from Weeks Bayou eastward to Ashley.
These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.
When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
