MDEQ Lifts Beach Closure in Biloxi

(JACKSON, Miss.) — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has lifted a beach closure issued June 17 for the following area:

From Grande View Drive to Brady Drive in Biloxi (approximately from east of Edgewater Mall to just past Beauvoir).

The City of Biloxi reported to MDEQ Monday that a pump station malfunctioned and that sewage entered the beach area.

Water samples show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels.  The Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, which performs water sampling of the Mississippi Gulf Coast beaches for MDEQ, notifies the agency when an area returns to acceptable levels and safe conditions.
