MDEQ Lifts Beach Closure for Segment of Beach in Biloxi

(Jackson, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring program, lifted a beach closure Thursday that had been issued December 15 for a segment of beach in Biloxi:

►From the eastern barrier of the old Broadwater Hotel marina in front of Southern Memorial Park east to Ocean Club Boulevard.

MDEQ advises that people can now engage in water contact such as swimming or wading and can consume fish or anything else taken from these waters. Water samples taken during the last few days returned results below the levels of concern.

This segment of beach had been closed due to a force main break that the City of Biloxi has repaired. To receive beach advisories directly, send an email to rwilbur@deq.state.ms.us for inclusion in a public group email list, text “MDEQbeach” to 95577, or follow MDEQ on Twitter: @MDEQ.
