MDEQ Lifts Beach Advisory in Jackson County

One Other Advisory in Effect

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, lifted a water contact advisory Thursday for Stations 15 (Shearwater Beach) in Jackson County. One other advisory remains in effect.

The advisory is lifted for:

  • Station 15 — Shearwater Beach (Ocean Springs) — from Weeks Bayou east to Ashley Pl.

An advisory remains in effect for:

  • Station 1 — Lakeshore Beach — near Lakeshore Drive in Bay St. Louis — from the Silver Slipper Casino east to Pointset Ave.

When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisory will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
