MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisory for Station 1

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a water contact advisory Tuesday for sampling station 1 (Lakeshore Beach). Advisories remain in effect for stations 10B, 15, 19, and 20.

An advisory is issued for:

►Station 1 — Lakeshore Beach — near Lakeshore Dr., Bay St. Louis — the extent is from Silver Slipper Casino east to Pointset Ave.

The advisories remain in effect for:

►Station 10B — East Courthouse Road Beach — near Courthouse Road Pier in Gulfport — the extent is from Courthouse Rd. east to Tegarden Rd.

►Station 15 — Shearwater Beach – near Holcomb Blvd. in Ocean Springs — the extent is from Weeks Bayou east to Ashley Place.

►Station 19 — Pascagoula Beach West — near Oliver St. in Pascagoula — the extent is from Oliver St. east to Westwood St.

►Station 20 — Pascagoula Beach East — near Grand Oaks Dr. in Pascagoula — the extent is from Westwood St. east to Grand Oaks Dr.

These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
