(Jackson, MS) –The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a water contact advisory Friday for a section of the Yalobusha River near the City of Grenada. The advisory is issued for the Yalobusha River from just east of the bridge on Highway 51 to just west of the I-55 south bridge, and for Dement Creek from the Grenada wastewater lagoon to the point where it meets the Yalobusha (see attached map).

MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreational activities such as swimming, wading, and fishing in these waters.

The advisory is being issued due to a bypass at a lift station that is discharging wastewater into the Yalobusha River at the Highway 51 bridge. MDEQ is working with the town regarding repairs. The advisory may be revised as needed.
