MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisory for Eubanks Creek

(JACKSON, Miss.) –The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a temporary water contact advisory Friday for a portion of Eubanks Creek in Jackson. The advisory extends from Lakeland Drive (Highway 25) to the confluence with the Pearl River. The advisory is being issued due to wastewater line construction that resulted in a discharge into the sloughs that feed Eubanks Creek. In addition, an advisory on the Pearl River is in effect from Lakeland Drive to Rosemary Road in Terry.

MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreation such as swimming, wading, or fishing in these waters. People should also avoid eating fish or anything else taken from these waters until further notice.

MDEQ staff has begun to monitor bacteria levels and water quality and will revise the advisory as needed.
