MDEQ is issuing a water contact advisory for Comynie Bayou and a portion of the Pascagoula River in Jackson County following the release of wastewater into the waterways.
The advisory covers all of Comynie Bayou and a section of the Pascagoula River from the west end of Delmas Avenue south to the mouth of the river (see attached map).
The advisory is being issued due to a wastewater collection system bypass near John Avenue in Pascagoula that resulted in the release of approximately 550,000 gallons of wastewater. The bypass has since been repaired.
MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreational activities such as swimming, wading, and fishing in these waters. MDEQ will continue to monitor conditions and revise the advisory as needed.
