MDEQ Issues Two Water Contact Advisories in Hancock County and One in Harrison County
(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued two water contact advisories Friday for sampling stations 2 and 3 in Hancock County and one for station 12A in Biloxi. Advisories are still in effect for stations 1, 7, 10, 11, and 15.
Advisories were issued for:
►Station 2 — Buccaneer State Park Beach — near State Park Road in Waveland. The extent is from 100 yards west of sign eastward to 100 yards east of sign.
►Station 3 — Waveland Beach — from Oak Blvd. east to Favre St.
►Station 12A — Biloxi West Central Beach — from Travia St. east to Iberville Dr.
Advisories are still in effect for:
►Station 1– Lakeshore Beach — from Silver Slipper Casino eastward to Poinset.
►Station 7 — Pass Christian East Beach – from Espy Ave. east to Hayden Ave.
►Station 10 — Gulfport Central Beach — from Alfonso Dr. east to Arkansas Ave.
►Station 11 — Gulfport East Beach — from Tegarden east to Anniston Ave.
►Station 15 – Shearwater Beach – from Weeks Bayou east to Ashley.
These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.
When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
