MDEQ Issues Two Beach Water Contact Advisories
(Jackson, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued water contact advisories Saturday for Station 4 and Station 11. An advisory remains in effect for Station 7A. These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted.
The advisories are issued for:
  • Station 4 — Bay St. Louis Beach — the extent is from the Box Culvert east to Ballantine St.
  • Station 11 —  Gulfport East Beach near near Cowan/Lorraine Road, Gulfport). The extent is from Tegarden eastward to Anniston Ave.
An advisory remains in effect for:
  • Station 7A — Long Beach — the extent is from Oak Gardens Ave. east to Girard Ave.
Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
