MDEQ Issues Two Beach Water Contact Advisories
One Other Advisory Remains in Effect

Jackson, MS – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has issued beach water contact advisories for Gulfport West Beach and East Courthouse Road Beach. One other beach water contact advisory remains in effect for Long Beach.

The beaches are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for contact, the advisories will be lifted.

Advisories have been issued for:

  • Gulfport West Beach — the affected area is from Marie Ave. east to Camp Ave. (Station 8)

  • East Courthouse Road Beach — the affected area is from Courthouse Rd. east to Tegarden. (Station 10B)

An advisory remains in effct for:

  • Long Beach — the affected area is from Oak Garden Ave. east to Girard Ave. (Station 7A)

Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming should not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall.
