MDEQ Issues Three Beach Advisories and Lifts One
One Advisory Remains in Effect
(Jackson, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued water contact advisories Thursday for Station 3 (Waveland Beach), Station 5 (Pass Christian West Beach), and Station 7 (Pass Christian East Beach). The advisory for Station 10B (East Courthouse Road Beach) was lifted, and an advisory remains in effect for Station 4 (Bay St. Louis Beach).
Advisories are issued for:
· Station 3 — Waveland Beach — the extent is from Oak Blvd. east to Favre St.
· Station 5 — Pass Christian West Beach — the extent is from Fort Henry Ave. east to Elliot St.
· Station 7 — Pass Christian East Beach — the extent is from Espy Ave. east to Hayden Ave.
The advisory is lifted for:
· Station 10B — East Courthouse Road Beach — near Courthouse Rd. Pier (Gulfport) — the extent is from Courthouse Rd. east to Tegarden Rd. Water samples at this station show the area has attained acceptable bacteria levels.
An advisory remains in effect for:
· Station 4 — Bay St. Louis Beach — near St. Charles Street — the extent from the box culvert to Ballantine St.
When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
