Jackson, MS – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, has issued a beach water contact advisory for Long Beach. There is one other advisory in effect.

The beaches are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas. When water samples show that bacteria levels are safe for contact, the advisories will be lifted.

An advisory has been issued for:

  • Long Beach — the affected area is from Oak Garden Ave. east to Girard Ave. (Station 7A)

An advisory remains in effect for:

  • Gulfport East Beach — the affected area is from Tegarden Ave. east to Anniston Ave. (Station 11)

Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming should not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall.
