MDEQ Issues Beach Closure in Biloxi

(Jackson, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued a beach closure Tuesday for a section of beach in Biloxi:

●Station 12A – Biloxi West Central Beach — from Travia Avenue to Iberville Drive.

The city’s lift station at Rodenberg Avenue was damaged by lightning during an afternoon storm creating a sewage spill.  The city is working on repairing the lift station.

MDEQ advises residents not to enter the water or consume any seafood collected from these nearshore waters until further notice.  MDEQ will monitor the water and lift the closure when bacteria levels indicate conditions are safe for water contact.
