MDEQ Issues Advisories for Stations 11 and 12B in Harrison County

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued water contact advisories Friday for sampling stations 11 (Gulfport East Beach) and 12B (Biloxi East Central Beach).  Advisories remain in effect for stations 4, 5, and 10.

Advisories are issued for:

  • Station 11 — Gulfport East Beach — near Cowan/Lorraine Road — from Tegarden Rd. east to Anniston Ave.
  • Station 12B – Biloxi East Central Beach — near Porter Ave. — from St. Peter St. east to Dukate St.

Advisories remain for:

  • Station 4 — Bay St. Louis Beach — near St. Charles St. — from the Box Culvert east to Ballantine St.
  • Station 5 — Pass Christian West Beach — from Fort Henry Ave. east to Elliot St.
  • Station 10 — Gulfport Central Beach — from Alfonso Dr. east to Arkansas Ave.

These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in these areas.  When water samples show that levels are safe for human contact, the advisories will be lifted. Swimmers are reminded that the Beach Task Force has a standing recommendation that swimming not occur during or within 24 hours of a significant rainfall event.
