Zoom meeting hosted by MDEQ Waste Division

An online public hearing will be hosted on Zoom by MDEQ to solicit public comments on the proposed transfer of MDEQ Solid Waste Manage Permit No. SW0470010580 for the Riverbend Landfill in Jefferson County, Mississippi from the current owner, Riverbend Environmental Services, LLC (Riverbend Landfill) to Greenway Environmental Services, LLC.  Additional project information, including the draft permit, the permit rationale document, and the public notice may be found HERE.

Greenway has expressed its intent to purchase the existing municipal solid waste landfill assets through bankruptcy and has entered into an agreed order with the MDEQ and has developed a plan to return the landfill operations to compliance. The information on the online public hearing is as follows:

Registrants must enter their name, email, and indicate if they anticipate speaking during the hearing.  Registration should be completed at least 1 hour prior to the start time of the public hearing. Upon registration, an email will be sent to the registrant with a link to the Zoom meeting as well as additional instructions on participating. Interested persons should be able to participate through a web browser or through the Zoom app. Only persons that are registered will have the opportunity to make verbal comments during the hearing. Persons that plan to participate using a phone line for audio must register the phone number they intend to use during the meeting so that they may be identified and unmuted at the appropriate time to offer comments.

In addition, any interested person may submit comments in writing or by email at any time during the 30-day public comment process. Written comments should be sent to Trent Jones by email (tjones@mdeq.ms.gov) or by mail to MDEQ, P. O. Box 2261, Jackson, MS 39225 no later than November 6, 2020.
