Water Availability and Use

The Office of Land and Water Resource’s Division of Permitting, certification, and compliance is responsible for the following duties:

• Issuance and renewal of permits related to the withdrawal of groundwater and diversion or impoundment of surface water;
• Regulation and management of the state water resources through the enforcement of applicable statutes and regulations;
• Maintenance of an observation well network throughout Mississippi that is used to monitor water levels associated with the major aquifers of the state;
