MDEQ Issues Water Contact Advisory for Area of Coldwater
(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a general water contact advisory Saturday for areas around the Town of Coldwater in Tate County. The area of concern is around the town’s wastewater lagoon south of Highway 306 between Highway 51 and Interstate 55.
Due to significant rain events and rising waters near the town’s wastewater treatment facility and the potential release of wastewater, MDEQ, out of an abundance of caution, is issuing a water contact advisory for residents to avoid water contact recreation and consumption of anything caught in this area and in general all flooded areas.
MDEQ staff is continuing to monitor the situation, and working with local officials, to determine if the advisory will need to be modified based on the conditions and water levels.
